In spring 2024, CQ hosted a more-than-humans methods workshop. The program was led by the inaugural Eakin Chair in Critical Qualitative Health Research Methodology, Dr. Sarah Elton, in collaboration with doctoral students Aparna Menon, Carlos Sanchez Pimienta and Noha Fikry and Arnika Peselmann, a visiting scholar from Germany. The group built on their workshop to co-author an article exploring methodologies for researching with more-than-humans that has recently been published in Qualitative Inquiry. The article may be particularly helpful for graduate students who are working in this area. You can find the open source article here.
For more on plants as research participants, you can also find Sarah’s article in Contexts, a public sociology journal from the American Sociological Association.
