CQ is pleased to announce a special virtual summer offering of the CQ capstone course CHL5115: Qualitative Analysis and Interpretation, taught by Dr. Blake Poland. This intensive summer edition provides an opportunity to engage deeply with critical qualitative data analysis in a focused, collaborative format. (Note: CQ is offering CHL 5115 as a virtual summer course as a one-time pilot. CHL 5115 will be offered again, in Winter 2027 as an in-person course).
Students who are interested in expanding their methodological expertise and/or wish to complete this course requirement for the CQ certificate are encouraged to register.
The online course will run for 8 weeks, starting June 25th, on Thursday evenings, 6-9 PM EST. Click here for information on enrolment.

About the Instructor:
Dr. Blake Poland is Associate Professor Emeritus in the SBHS division of the DLSPH. A social/health geographer by training and sociologist by inclination, a critical qualitative researcher with over 30 years of experience, and one of the founding members of the Centre for Critical Qualitative Health Research (CQ), the broad scope of his work has included community development theory and practice, the sociology of tobacco control, community resilience, and social movements as agents of transformative change. He brings a special interest in how context matters in critical qualitative research, transcription, the interpretation of silences, and the role of theory in qualitative research. Related courses he has taught include JRP1000, CHL5101, and CHL5111. He lives with his partner and their small dog on a permaculture homestead farm and intentional community near Peterborough, a space shared with several other couples, deer, moose, owl, and many many ticks and mosquitoes.
