Looking for people to think with?
Are you a doctoral student interested in critical qualitative health research? Looking for community, new ideas, or a place to work through the theoretical and methodological questions that come up in your research?
Come meet students and faculty at the Centre for Critical Qualitative Health Research at the CQ Student Welcome Orientation, followed by the first gathering of our CQ Doctoral Discussion Group. Attend either event or stay for both!
Friday, Sept 25 | 7th-floor lounge, 155 College Street
2:30–3:30 p.m. Welcome Orientation
3:30–5:00 p.m. CQ Doctoral Discussion Group
Throughout the year there are two ways to engage with the CQ community:
- CQ Doctoral Discussion Group:
Joins us for our reading group Humans and Health in the Anthropocene: Expanding Methodological Boundaries PART II. The books we choose challenge normative categories of human health as problematized by scholars in fields such as disability studies, queer studies, feminist studies, critical race theory and environmental and posthumanist studies.
We will meet, in person, twice a semester on a Friday afternoon. To prepare, read one or more chapters of the selected book. Sign up to the CQ student email list to receive notices about our various meetings. Hybrid participation is possible.
- Methodology Mentorship:
We will host mentoring conversations with CQ Academic Fellows about the questions and challenges that arise in doing critical qualitative research. We welcome conversations about navigating institutional barriers to critical and minoritized scholarship and ways of knowing, including research that challenges or does not fit neatly within dominant methodological traditions. These sessions will take place on alternate months to the discussion group meetings.
Join us to think, talk, and connect with others doing qualitative research across U of T.
Sign up for the CQ student email list to hear about these upcoming gatherings as well as workshops, seminars, and other opportunities to connect with the CQ community.
Hope to see you on Friday, September 25th! RSVP here.
