CQ has created curriculum maps to help students understand the courses available in the ‘Essentials of Qualitative Research’ (EQR) course series. Master’s students will find courses listed as core or advanced depending on their needs. PhD students will find courses listed as broad or focused, and where they fit in the following categories: theoretical foundation of method; data generation; data analysis; thesis completion and professional development.

The following example pathways are designed to help students understand potential ways through the EQR course series depending on their level of study, goals, and past experience.
Note: the suggested PhD student pathway was updated November 2018 to correct a course number in pathway 1 (changed from SWK 6307 to SWK 4512) and added SWK 6307 as an equivalent option to CHL 5131 in pathways 1 and 2.
