“This special section on qualitative research affirms the commitment of the Canadian Journal of Public Health (CJPH) to serve as a welcoming home for critical, theoretically engaged research on public health issues. The section is introduced by an editorial and commentary that explain the significance of qualitative research for public health, describe the forward vision for publishing qualitative research at CJPH, and detail the steps taken to realize that vision. The four original research articles serve as exemplars of the forms of critical theoretically engaged public health research that CJPH wishes to encourage. Our overall aim is to strengthen and invigorate the community of qualitative public health researchers in Canada and beyond. We invite members of that community as well as other researchers, scholars, and public health practitioners to contribute to research published in CJPH that explores the value of qualitative inquiry for enhanced public health knowledge and practice.” – CJPH
