CQ @10: Time for Reflection and Celebration!
April 24-25, 2020
As many of you are aware, CQ has been alive and active for 10 years, and we are in the mood to celebrate her birthday with an event or series of events that is both nourishing and reflective of our accomplishments, passion and shared history.
To that end, a small working group comprised of Blake Poland, Joan Eakin, Janet Parsons, Daniel Grace, Pia Kontos, Jessica Polzer, Heather Boon, and Denise Gastaldo, with the assistance and participation of SBHS PhD student Jessica Bytautas, has been meeting to design something truly engaging for us all.
Here is what we have converged on: a 1.5-day symposium on a Friday evening and all day Saturday on April 24-25 2020 (SAVE THE DATE!!), on the theme of “Revisiting & Reimagining the ‘Critical’ in Critical Qualitative Health Research. Past, Present and Future”. We will have a keynote presentation on the Friday evening by Judith Green, preceded by informal meet-and-greet with keynote speakers and trainees that afternoon, and followed by a reception. The next day will feature a series of 90-minute panel sessions on each of the following key themes (a) the idea and consequences of CQ’s vision of the critical (b) the ‘realpolitik of critical QR in the health sciences, and (c) critical re-visions: what’s next? The first of these panels will be followed by a second keynote by Julianne Cheek. Each panel is being organized by a subset of the working group, and will include speakers from the CQ diaspora as well as current trainees.
