CQ’s New Administrative Coordinator

June 27, 2019 by ccqhrAdmin

This month, CQ says farewell to Andrea Carson, our stellar Administrative Coordinator of three years, and welcomes PhD student, Kristie Serota, to the team!

Andrea (right) joined CQ as Administrative Coordinator in October 2016 under former Director, Denise Gastaldo (2014-2018), and former Associate Director and current Director, Brenda Gladstone. She is a PhD candidate in the Social and Behavioural Health Sciences division of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, supervised by CQ Fellow, Dr. Fiona Webster. Her dissertation research used feminist theory and a narrative methodology to explore women’s experiences of discontinuing medical fertility treatment in Canada. Andrea will complete her Final Oral Examination this summer, before beginning a qualitative post-doctoral fellowship with the Contraception and Abortion Research Team (CART) at the School of Nursing at Dalhousie University.

Kristie (left) completed her Master’s degree in the Applied Social Psychology program at the University of Guelph. Her Master’s thesis focused on a public deliberation project examining funding for cancer drugs in Canada. She has been a research assistant on several public deliberation projects in Canada and the US, discussing a wide range of issues related to health and ethics. Kristie completed a practicum placement in bioethics at Toronto Western Hospital where she worked on a scoping review examining stigma and opioid use and led a media analysis on alcohol-related liver disease requiring liver transplantation. Kristie is currently a PhD student in Social and Behavioural Health Sciences at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Her doctoral research focuses on the social, legal, and ethical dimensions of medical assistance in dying.

We wish Andrea all the best in her new role and are very pleased to welcome Kristie to the team!
